A good, central cafe here in Ubud is Ubud Coffee Roastery. It is located right next to Mudra Cafe, in the Goutama Selatan area, and it has one very simple but very useful advantage in Ubud: a large parking area where you can leave your scooter while you enjoy your coffee.
For me, Ubud Coffee Roastery is a pretty chill place where you can get some work done in peace. You may run into some issues with the outlets, so either bring an adapter or use a 3-pin plug, because the 2-pin one can be a little annoying here.
Why I Like Ubud Coffee Roastery
It is convenient and the coffee is good. For someone who lives in Ubud or comes here often, that matters more than it seems. You do not always need the most spectacular place, in the middle of rice fields or surrounded by palm trees. Sometimes you just need a place you can return to, where the coffee is consistent, the people are decent, and the morning does not feel heavy.
What You Can Find There
- good coffee, including single-origin options from Indonesian plantations, according to local travel guides;
- hot drinks, iced coffee, and pour-over / drip options for people who take their coffee more seriously;
- simple pastries, good for a quick morning;
- Wi-Fi and a laptop-friendly vibe for short meetings, focused work, or a relaxed work session;
- useful scooter parking, which genuinely matters in Ubud.
The Tribe
I’ve met super cool people here and built friendships and collaborations. Sometimes you even bump into the Ubud running club.
They are early birds, usually running around 5–6 in the morning, and once they finish their session, they head to the cafe for coffee, conversations, and that simple post-workout moment when the body is awake and the mind hasn’t overcomplicated the day yet.
The staff is warm and welcoming, just like almost everywhere else here in Ubud.
They smile at you, they serve you. They are young locals you can leave a little tip for—they’ll really appreciate it, even though it’s not really the custom around here.
The Vibe
Ubud Coffee Roastery has a relaxed, straightforward vibe without too much staging. It is not the kind of cafe you visit to disappear into the decor, but the kind of place where you come to start the day well, drink a decent coffee, read, write, work a little, or meet someone without feeling the pressure of a place that is trying too hard to be precious. Their playlist is good too; it does not pull you in, but it also does not distract you, which is exactly right. The atmosphere stays lightly neutral instead of being taken over by music that demands too much attention.
If you are in central Ubud and want a good coffee before practice, before work, or before the city pulls you into its rhythm, Ubud Coffee Roastery is a good place to start.
